Debit cards, work like an electronic check, by allowing us to withdraw money directly from either the bank account, or from the remaining balance on the card. Debit cards can also allow for instant withdrawal of cash, acting as the ATM card for withdrawing cash and as a cheque guarantee card. Unlike credit cards, there are no interest rates applied to prepaid debit cards, although there are sometimes fees associated with them.
The use of debit cards has become widespread in many countries and in some cases has overtaken cheque and cash transactions, by its volume. They are particularly favored by college students and expatriates sending money home. Besides, debit cards are used widely for telephone and Internet purchases. In some cases, the cards are designed exclusively for use on the Internet, and so there is no physical card.
Links4real has provided resources that present information about debit cards in general. We have also included sites that offer debit cards, for your convenience.
