The term cooling refers to the transfer of thermal energy through heat conduction and thermal radiation. Some of the common equipments used for cooling are:
1) Air conditioning: The cooling and dehumidification of indoor air is termed as air conditioning. These equipment are designed to maintain the air temperature and humidity within an area. The concept was introduced during the Ancient Rome period and till date remains one of the most common cooling equipments.
2) Refrigeration: The process of transferring heat from an enclosed substance or space to a place where it is unobjectionable, is known as refrigeration.
3) Cryogenics: The study of producing low temperature and the behavior of materials at those temperature is known as cryogenics. Kelvin scales are used for this study.
4) Laser cooling: It is a technique used to cool atoms using light.
5) Aircooling: A method which is applied to dissipate heat is known as Air cooling. Vehicles, electronic, industries and turbines are some of the common examples for Air cooling.
6) Computer cooling: For safe operation of computer components certain equipment are installed to keep the heat at a safe level. Such equipment are known as computer cooling equipment.
7) Heat conduction: Any transfer from higher temperature to a region of lower temperature is called Heat or Thermal conduction.
Coolant, Radiators, HVAC, Steam generation and Heat pipe are some of the common devices used for cooling.
