The term electricity has been derived from a Greek word “elektron,” which means amber. It is a general term that includes a wide variety of phenomena resulting from the presence and flow of electric charge. Generally, the phrase is referred to a number of physical effects. Researches and studies are still going on to find various properties of electrically charged elements. Though, electricity is not a man-made invention, and may be observed in many forms in nature. Certain organisms like sharks and electric eel respond to changes in electric fields, which is known as electroreception.
Until the late 19th century, the practical application for electricity remained few. However, later engineers were able to make use of electricity for industrial and residential purposes. It is believed that the rapid expansion behind industry and society is electrical technology.
At present, the term consists of extraordinary versatility as a source of energy. Hence, it can be used for unlimited set of application which includes transport, lighting, computation, heating and more. Electric power is the backbone of the modern industrial society.
Electricity has become a necessity of everyday life. Right from lighting, refrigeration to telecommunication everything requires the power of electricity. Therefore, requires special attention by popular culture only when it stops flowing.
