Board games are a favorite form of indoor entertainment. A family can while away hours playing Risk, Monopoly and Checkers. They are a fun way to spend an evening.
These games have been played in most cultures and societies throughout history. Go for example, is an ancient strategic board game originating in China.
The different types of board games today include abstract strategy games like chess, German-style board games, race games, roll-and-move games, trivia, word games and war games
Most board games involve both luck and strategy. A player may be hampered by a few poor rolls of the dice in Risk or Monopoly, but over many games a player with a superior strategy will win more often.
While some argue that luck is not a desirable component of a game and games should focus more on strategy, others counter that elements of luck can introduce far more diverse, real-world elements such as expected value and risk management.
