We all are aware of the fact that the wheel was the first ever major invention of mankind. However, bearings on the other hand were already present. Let us take for instance, a stone in the shape of a ball or a round shaped truck can be compared to a roller bearing. In the olden days, sliding bearings were made from hardwood. Over the years, the process has undergone many changes. At present, sliding bearings are mainly used for temporary purposes only since, it quickly becomes useless due to continuous corrosion.
More than six decades ago, the classic movable bearing consisted of two rolls and a rocker plate, it was termed as movable ball rocker bearing. There were also bearings that moved in all directions with the help of two roll pairs placed on top of each other.
The support or bearing system is the static conditions in the support areas regardless of whether they are used or not. Therefore, bearings are elements that are arranged between structural parts to accommodate boundary conditions as used in static analysis. Bearings are being used in almost all industries. Right from construction of bridges to distribution of loads. Currently, varied forms of materials are being used as bearing materials.
