The process of casting is more than 6000 years old. Under this technique, a liquid material is poured into a mold in the shape of a hollow cavity and left to solidify. Once it gets solidified it is either ejected or broken out. The process is mainly used to produce complex shapes.
If any metal is difficult to produce or uneconomical to obtain, as compared to other forms then casting process should be used. Expendable and non-expendable mold castings are the two main subgroups of casting process.
In the earlier times, sand molding was one of the few forms found. However, over the years, casting process has underwent many changes and now it includes state-of-the-art electromagnetic process.
