Remember that machine is not a single process but a group of processes. However, the most common part of all machining process is the use of a cutting tool to form a chip.
To perform machining process, relative motion is required between the metal tool and machine. This motion is usually achieved by means of a primary motion called cutting speed. Most of the machining processes follow a four steps procedure:
- Roughing: In this step, bulk of waste materials are quickly removed with the help of a ripper cuter.
- Semi Roughing: In this stage, a small cutter than a roughing is used.
- Semi Finishing: Then, a large nosed cutter start to form the final profile of the workpiece.
- Finishing: It is one of the longest processes of all. In this step a small nosed cutter traverse across the metal surface to produce the finished shape.
